Disabled People and Sex

Title: Disabled People and Sex

Title: Disabled People and Sex

Disables people are always looking for getting assistance and only recently has been discussed in some educational articles and amongst community members in different places. The most often-asked questions about personal assistance services (PAS) and sex are: With what kind of sexual activities can people with disability require help? How to look for a person ready to support in such a private yet significant activity?

While selecting the right adult sex toy it can help a person with a disability to enjoy sex, but sometimes the changes are just not sufficient to help facilitate the activity. There are disables people who may require support from another person for having sex with someone else or masturbation. PAS refers to a person helping a disabled person to perform tasks targeted at maintaining health, personal looks, safety, comfort, and interaction with the society and community as a whole. And, while sex is not included within the definition of PAS, it definitely does fall within the sphere of "well-being."

Here are some examples of sexual activities that disables people may require PAS to experience the pleasure of sex:

  • Physical Impairments
Taking out clothes; positioning for masturbation; for partner sex; transferring in and out of the wheelchair onto the bed floor, or couch; exciting the body of partner with the
sex toy for men or women or hand; stimulating own body with sex toy or hand; cleaning up and redressing; using birth control (diaphragm, birth control pill, condoms, etc.)

  • Vision Impairments
Preparing for sex; e.g., going to and fro partner's place, shopping for
adult sex toys, discussion and interpretation of sexual positions given in books

  • Hearing Impairments
Interpretation of Sign Language before and/or while doing the sexual activity with a hearing person.

Assistance in Sexual Activities

There is a wide array of what people require help with and who will agree to assist. For example, someone may need assistance with setting up to use Adult Sex Toys, Sex Toys Vibrator, Anal Sex Toys, Adult Sex Toys, Sex Toy, Adult Toys Vibrator, Sex Toys Vibrators, Sex Toys for Men, Sex Toys for women; e.g., taking the product out of its packing, placing it in a person's hand, and switching on the power. Some people might need help with the entire process; e.g., all of the above, and also holding the adult sex toy in place where the person wants the stimulation. It is quite important to think about these problems before you look for a personal support and ask for their help.

In spite of disables people have been using PAS for sex since many years; there is so much of controversy about how one asks for such help and what others have successfully found in developing such a relationship.

Here are some concepts about how to prepare and to frankly talk about with a personal assistant about helping with sexual activities:

  • Make a list of activities with which you require assistance; e.g., undressing, masturbation, feeling partner’s body, using a diaphragm, a condom or sex toy for men and women

  • Defining rules; e.g., indicate how long an assistant should stay in the room, and be able to know the activities that you do or do not want help.

  • Agree upon a system of communication to be upheld between the disabled person and the assistant and within the sexual activity; e.g., hand signals, eye blinks, and establishing particular words to indicate when to begin and stop.

  • Involvement of partner when both persons have disabilities; e.g., feelings about assistance with sex, interacting with a partner about her/his physical abilities, what is the understanding of the assistant prior to interviewing a service provider

  • Consider safety issues when selecting a provider; e.g., checking right references for this person, make sure that some one close to you knows what is going on and is able to check if the situation is safe, finding a way to call for help if feeling uncomfortable.
